  • Campbelltown takes out State League Division 3

    5 September, 2011

A large contingent of Campbelltown fans attended the Netball NSW State League grand finals on Saturday, 3 September 2011, to support its two teams. The Association congratulates both teams on their performances.

    Team 2 (Division 6)

Team 2 met tough competitors, Randwick, in Division 6.  Unable to beat Randwick in the two competition rounds, Campbelltown lost to them by one goal in the semi-finals.  After downing Eastwood-Ryde in the finals, Campbelltown came up against Randwick again in the grand final.
The youngsters from Campbelltown started strongly and secured an early lead.  Although the lead narrowed over the course of the game, Campbelltown was still in front when teams took the court for the last quarter.   Despite best attempts, Campbelltown was unable to hold off a strong comeback from the more experienced Randwick team and went down by 2 goals.
Coach, Cheryl James, was thrilled with the team’s performance after only one season together.
The girls are:  Demi Carlton, Holly Gleeson, Alexandra Kuilder, Tenille Leet, Ina Maraera, Courtney Moretti, Larni Stowers, Bronte Weeding, Nicole Wilson

    Team 1 (Division 3)

After a short break, supporters witnessed the grand final in Division 3 between Campbelltown and Ku-ring-gai, which was a complete reversal of the earlier game.  Ku-ring-gai looked the stronger of the two teams and led by 5 goals at the first break.
Improving on this lead, Ku-ring-gai were seven goals in front as the game progressed ensuring that Campbelltown had a tough job ahead of them.
In the last couple of minutes of the game, a determined Campbelltown side fought back to equal the score at 43-43.  A tense 7 minutes each way followed with the score goal for goal.  At the final whistle Campbelltown led by 2 goals.
Congratulations to the coach, Merryn Connolly, and the players in Team 1, who were  Deborah Alapati, Sarah Borwick, Sarah Bowen, Meagan Dielman, Alicia Hill, Emma Lawrence, Belinda Pereira, Tenille Peronis, Gemma Simms, Krista Thomas, Erin Thompson and Michelle Treloar.

  • Campbelltown state league teams to play in Grand Finals

    2 September, 2011

The two Campbelltown State League teams have made it through to the Grand Final which in Div 3 and Div 6. Games will be played at Anne Clark Center at Auburn on Saturday 3.9.11.

Representative Co-Ordinator Bev Harris said "I am very proud of the teams' progress in making the 2011 State League Grand Final.  A lot of hardwork and effort is needed over the months leading up to the Grand Final and I know both teams have given this." "

"Compassionate, dedicated and skilful are 3 words that come to mind when describing the players and personnel," Ms Harris said.

"The coaches have had a lot to deal with in preparing the ladies for games each week but have managed to cope with any situation that was put to them. I am sure Merryn (Div 3 Coach) and Cheryl (Div 6 Coach) will do a great job on Saturday to finish off this season. A bit nervous now I bet!"

"Good Luck to both teams and we will all be there cheering you on and proudly wearing our red and black colours!"
